James 2: 16,17 tells us that it is not enough to speak good words to those in need, but we need to reach out and meet those needs. We cannot say to the hungry, “Be filled” without providing them something to eat. The Kiowa Creek Food Bank exists in order to provide those in need with temporary assistance and support as they work to improve their situation. Additionally, the food bank seeks to identify and address other needs in their lives, and in so doing allow the Holy Spirit to grow mercy and grace in the lives of our church members.
Since 1992, the Food Bank has provided food assistance to local families and individuals in need. The Food Bank is located in the lower level of the Fellowship Hall. Anyone in need of assistance can call the church office at 303-621-2376 to schedule an appointment. The food bank is open for food bank, commodities and senior food box pick up's on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.
The Food Bank is also the distribution site for the Elbert County Senior Food Program, individuals age 60 or over may qualify depending on their monthly income. A normal senior food box includes non-perisable food items such as canned juice, cannet meat, canned vegetables, boxed cereal, pasta or rice and a 2 lb chunk of american cheese. Food boxes are delivered to the church once a month and seniors can come in and pick up their commodities.
We are also the distribution site for Elbert County Residents that qualify for TEFAP, Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program. Individuals and families can call the church at 303-621-2376 to see if they qualify for the monthly TEFAP program, (based on number in the household and total household income). This is a monthly food program and those who qualify can pick up their food assistance during the 3rd week of every month or by appointment, please call the church office at 303-621-2376.
The Food Bank is supported by generous donations from the congregation and the general public. Special thanks to the wonderful folks at the Elizabeth Safeway grocery store, for their generous support!
